3hattrio

Thu 5th Sep 2019 @ 8:00 pm

£14

Just as Yat-Kha or Huun-Huur-Tu will transport you to the Eurasian Steppe and Tinariwen to the Sahara, with pure, elemental traces of place, the music of 3hattrio could only have emerged from one source – the landscape around them.

And, as the Delta has its blues or Appalachia its mountain music, in the case of the 3hattrio, inspiration comes from the deserts of southern Utah. The songs are mostly original, but even when enjoying a spot of recycling, the gems that came from others are given a distinctive American Desert Music dust down.

As those who saw them last time the trio played here, they create something that responds to the natural world of their sacred homeland near Zion National Park, and acknowledge the cultural traditions of generations of people who have worked and lived on the deserts of the great southwest.

They have been called “fascinating,” “original and addictive,” “uncommon,” “enchanting,”…and, yes, “unique.”

3hattrio became the talk of the town when they flew in for their own headline show – and UK debut – at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival in 2017. That performance and the buzz generated, led to an invitation to return to Europe in 2018 to appear at Denmark’s big Tonder festival.

They ended 2018 on a high being named a “Best Band of The Year” (there were five in the final group of winners) at AmericanaUK and respected UK music writer Marc Higgins made their Lord of The Desert his favourite album of the year too.
