Cottingham Comedy Club presents Dave Williams plus support
Thu 11th Apr 2019 @ 7:30 pm£8 – £10
Cottingham Comedy Club, the village’s only comedy venue, provides an unique comedy experience in many ways. This intimate club gets you up close and personal with the acts, many of whom are breaking through into TV, or are established acts from the UK and international comedy circuit. We are a welcoming venue and we have a dedicated room for the comedy, with regular breaks between the acts for you to lubricate your throats with laughter juice. With four acts and a compere it’s great value for money at just £2 per comedian. We think it’s the most fun you can have with friends on a midweek night out. This month we are Back at the Backroom, our beautiful new(ish) venue and now with a regular night of the second Thursday of every month.
Once again we have a brilliant headline act for you; this time sees a first CCC outing (why have we waited so long to bring this legend of the comedy circuit to our night?) for Dave Williams. Dave has been a full-time comedian since 1998 and is booked for both compering and sets by a wide range of bookers and venues including the Comedy Store, Manford’s Comedy Clubs, Jongleurs, Frog and Bucket.
He has performed overseas in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Australia, including a week headlining the Sydney Comedy Store. He has also performed in Cyprus for soldiers returning from Afghanistan.
In 1998 and 1999 Dave took solo shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, performing Caffeine – “a fantastic Fringe debut” (The List) – and Coffee with Dave Williams – “an engaging, amenable performer (The Stage) – at the Gilded Balloon. He performed an updated café themed show, 24 Hour Latte People, at the Manchester Comedy Festival in 2007.
Some of the praise for Dave Williams:
“An amenable and engaging performer.” The Stage
“Inspired one-liners punctuated with surreal nonsense.” The Scotsman
“One of the most underrated acts on the UK circuit.” Edinburgh Evening News
“Shades of Alan Bennett.” BBC Online (reviewing 24 Hour Latte People)
“Settles the room with confidence and authority.” Chortle
“A fine, original comic mind…always surprising the audience with his wit.” Manchester Evening News
“Charming storyteller with a delightful grasp of silliness.” City Life
Plus the usual supporting acts: a professional opening act and two up and coming comedians in the middle section.
Hosting proceedings this month is everyone’s second favourite compere, known to some as The Man, The Myth, The Legend, and to many more as The Other One Who Sometimes Does The Compere Thing But Isn’t Quite Jed Salisbury: it’s Stone Cold Rich Austin.
