Dr Dennis Bovell Is In The House
The legendary musician, producer and patron saint of dub reggae Dennis Bovell brings his acclaimed one man show to the New Adelphi Club on April 7, as part of a UK tour.
Best known for his work with dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and female punk pioneers The Slits, Dennis also scored a massive UK and European hit with the lovers rock single Silly Games by Janet Kaye, which Dennis wrote and produced. In a stellar career of creativity and drive stretching back five decades, Dennis has also worked with artists as diverse as Fela Kuti, Arcade Fire, Sade, Joss Stone and Orange Juice, and has toured the world with his own band Matumbi. In 2018 Dennis was made an Honorary Fellow of Goldsmiths College in recognition of his contribution to the cultural life of the nation.
For this unique one man show Dennis will be telling the story of his life, and tales of all the many artists he has worked with, and playing and singing many of the tracks from his songbook that he has written and produced, giving a unique insight into the creative life of a national treasure. For this Hull show Dennis will be ably assisted by Michael Barnes Wynters aka DJ Doodlebugs
Dennis will be joined by up and coming Manchester reggae band Ruff Trade playing reggae classic, commercial hits and their own original material, which is creating a buzz on the streets of Manchester. Hull based sound system Champion Sounds will be playing dub and reggae classics throughout the evening.
