A landmark Bill to help eradicate modern slavery received Royal Assent on 26 March 2015. The Modern Slavery Act was the first of its kind in Europe, and one of the first in the world, to specifically address slavery and trafficking in the 21st century.

To mark this anniversary Freedom Festival Arts Trust (FFAT) and the Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE) are joining forces to host a panel discussion and talks event at the Middleton Hall featuring Guardian investigative journalist Annie Kelly. She will be joined by academic experts and artistic activists.

The evening will also feature live spoken word/ film and a photography exhibition commissioned by Annie herself called ‘Face of Slavery’. This event is part of the ongoing ‘Freedom Talks’ a partnership between the University of Hull and FFAT.

Admission is free but booking is essential.
