Cottingham Comedy Club, the village’s only comedy venue, provides an unique comedy experience in many ways. This intimate club gets you up close and personal with the acts, many of whom are breaking through into TV, or are established acts from the UK and international comedy circuit. We are a welcoming venue and we have a dedicated room for the comedy, with regular breaks between the acts for you to lubricate your throats with laughter juice. With four acts and a regular host to compere the evening it’s great value for money at less than £2 per comedian. We think it’s the most fun you can have with friends on a midweek night out.
Did you miss us? After a month off we are back at the Backroom, our home every second Thursday of every month. Once again we have a brilliant headline act for you; this month it’s the turn of Jonny Pelham, who is due to appear on Live at the Apollo this autumn.
Jonny Pelham began doing comedy at university and while he was there he achieved runner-up in both the coveted So You Think You’re Funny competition and The Chortle Student Comedy Awards. After graduating Jonny continued to impress and was a finalist and judges choice in the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards, as well as being nominated for Chortle Best Newcomer in 2014.
With four critically acclaimed solo shows under his belt, Before and After (2015), Fool’s Paradise (2016), Just Shout Louder (2017) and Off Limits (2019), Jonny has also made the exciting step over to the small screen on Russell Howards Stand Up Central for Comedy Central followed by Live From The BBC. Jonny has also appeared in the Viceland series, Bobby & Harriet Getting Married and Plane Spotting for Turtle Canyon, as well as his own short film released as part the Sky Comedy Shorts season, Late Bloomer.
After an incredibly successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer, which included winning the Herald Angel Award for Off Limits, Jonny took the show to the Soho Theatre, and most recently filmed for Live At The Apollo, which will be on our screens this autumn.
Jonny is developing a number of projects, both scripted and unscripted, for TV, and has written and starred in his own Blap for Channel 4 which currently in production.
