Kirk Ella Comedy Club: Gav Webster plus support
Thu 19th Sep 2019 @ 7:30 pm£7 – £8
Kirk Ella Comedy Club is a monthly stand up comedy night held at The Wheatsheaf pub in Kirk Ella.
Each month we will bring you four comedians including a top headliner from the comedy circuit, all introduced by a regular compere.
Back after a short break in August, here we go again with Kirk Ella Comedy Club September and as autumn creeps up on us (probably requiring us to invest in some better spotlights for the stage) we have an absolute belter of a headliner for you: the magnificent force of nature that is Gavin Webster.
Gav started his comedy career as half of a double act, going solo in 1995. He was a regular team captain in Channel 4’s Does Doug Know? and is an established name on the circuit. He has also supported Lee Evans, Jack Dee and Phill Jupitus on tour. In 2014, he was named UK Circuit Comedian of the year, as voted for by fellow professional comedians online. Also in 2014 he won the award for Best UK Live Stand Up, commonly known as ‘The Comedian’s Comedian’, the second only winner of the award after Mick Ferry won it in 2013. Basically he’s (probably) the best stand up comedian you’ve (probably) never heard of. We’ve heard of him because he did our other night Cottingham Comedy Club and was absolutely awesome.
His television work includes Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Stand-up Show, Does Doug Know, Take The Mike, The Regionnaires, The Eleven O Clock show, The Comedy Store, Comedy Blue and The World Stand Up Tour (Channel 9 Australia, Comedy Central USA). He wrote and played in Walk on the Wild Side in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 he voiced Sid the Sexist for Channel 4’s series Blaps adapting Viz. His 2011 Edinburgh Fringe show, All Young People are Cunts was positively reviewed by the British Comedy Guide. He previously played Edinburgh in 2003, 2008 and 2009.
“His skill at mixing broad gags with genuinely clever material gave him a flexibility that other comics would kill for..” – Edinburgh Evening Standard
And as a special treat for you we have Hull’s own Jack Gleadow as our opening act. Fresh from the Edinburgh festival this is a great chance to catch him before he gets too famous and, let’s be honest, unbearably arrogant to play venues in his hometown (we love you really Jack).
Plus two great acts in the middle section: hilarious musical genius Keith Wild and Jonny Brook, The Sit Down Stand Up. All held together by KECC’s second-best compere: self-styled sex symbol and local celebrity Jed Salisbury.
Doors open 7:30pm, show starts 8:15pm
Tickets £8 in advance or £10 on the door (£7 with NUS / NHS or What’s On Hub card)
Tickets available at HullBoxOffice.com or from the venue itself: The Wheatsheaf, Kirk Ella HU10 7TL
With Kirk Ella Comedy Club, the village’s only comedy venue, we aim to provide a unique comedy experience. This intimate club gets you up close and personal with the acts, many of whom are breaking through into TV, or are established acts from the UK and international comedy circuit. We are a welcoming venue and we have a dedicated room for the comedy, with regular breaks between the acts for you to lubricate your throats with laughter juice. With four acts and a compere it’s great value for money at less than £2 per comedian. We think it’s the most fun you can have with friends on a midweek night out.
