Sam Reider & The Human Hands
Sat 26th Jan 2019 @ 8:00 pm
Imagine Sam Reider as a magnet, a creative force so positively attractive that some of the best musicians in Brooklyn, and much further afield, were very naturally drawn towards him. The Human Hands are all young, virtuoso acoustic musicians based in New York City who have developed a reputation for mind-bending, high-energy sets.
Sam’s music does not have roots solely in bluegrass/new grass. He made his mark in some cool jazz circles then discovered American roots music in all of its colourful guises, and the subsequent fermentation period produced a heady and uplifting brew inspired as much by Celtic and Eastern European fiddle-tunes as gypsy jazz, and western film score.
A debut album, Too Hot To Sleep delivers music that gets stuck in your head and keeps you up at night. Born out of months of heavy touring, sleep deprivation and creative excess, it is part journey through the underworld and part midnight revelry.
The line-up includes some of the finest figures in American roots music: violinist Alex Hargreaves (Turtle Island Quartet, Sarah Jarosz, Béla Fleck), saxophonist Eddie Barbash (Late Night with Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste and Stay Human), guitarist Grant Gordy (David Grisman, Darol Anger, Aoife O’Donovan), mandolinist Dominick Leslie (Michael Daves, Tony Trischka, Deadly Gentleman), guitarist Roy Williams (Stephane Wrembel), and bassist Dave Speranza (Jim Campilongo).
