‘Singing City Christmas’ – a seasonal celebration of Hull City Council’s Singing City projects featuring festive performances of the Chaps Chorus, Hull Visual Choir and Hull Freedom Chorus.
Hull Freedom Chorus is a project based massed singing group, whose past performances have thrilled audiences at Hull Freedom Festival, Jazz Festival and elsewhere. Their performances have earned them the accolade of the ‘mighty Freedom Chorus’. This seasonal offering, led by Ben Newton, will raise your spirits with a variety of unusual festive material with a strong folky vibe.
Hull Visual Choir is a signing adult choir aimed at bringing the Deaf and hearing community together. Using a mixture of British Sign Language and artistic license they make beautiful songs accessible to Deaf people and create moving performances for hearing and Deaf people alike.
Hull Chaps Chorus, are an alternative men’s community singing group, the result of an outreach project with male singers. Their rare performances are invariably entertaining, and it is always uplifting to hear male voices raised together in song.
Performances will be followed by festive fun including music quiz, bottle tombola, prize for the best Christmas headgear, book/CD/craft stall, and disco with DJ Paul. A fun night with a seasonal flavour in the magnificent setting of Hull’s Guildhall.
A complimentary glass of festive fruit punch and mince pie is included in the ticket price. A pay bar will operate throughout the evening.
This event is a fun fundraiser to support ongoing work developing singing in Hull. All are welcome.
‘Singing City’ has led to the formation and development of all the groups performing during the evening, as well as other activities as part of the Council’s Choral development initiative. For more information contact Arts Development, Hull City Council on 01482 300300.
