Hotham’s Gin School Experience
Join us at the gates to Hepworth’s Arcade, and prepare to indulge your senses with a journey into the history of gin and an interactive demonstration of how we make our gin, here at Hotham’s Gin School and Distillery.
Starting your experience off with a welcome Hotham’s gin and tonic, you’ll hear about gin’s Dutch origins, the 18th-century gin boom, and its journey from mother’s ruin to the gin laws and back to gin’s pride of place as the drink of the day.
Next, we’ll take you on a tour of our gin-making process. You’ll touch, smell and taste the botanicals we use to make our gin, and you'll sample and compare some neat gins and the base spirit used to make gin.
Then we'll use one of our traditional copper alembic stills to demonstrate the distilling process. You’ll be able to taste the different flavours of our botanicals as they emerge from the still, and you’ll learn about the distillers’ art of cutting.
You’ll see us make a bottle of our Hotham’s Handcrafted Gin, from start to finish, finishing with bottling and labelling.
Then at end of your experience with us, while you enjoy another Hotham’s G&T and chat to our distillers, we’ll enter all tickets into our raffle, and one lucky ticket holder will take home the bottle of gin they’ve just seen made!
All this for just £35+bf

You’ll watch our distiller make a bottle of gin using the same equipment and techniques as our "Hull Gin School - Distil your own Gin" event but you won’t distil your own bottle of gin - get your tickets here if that’s what you’d like to do.
Do I really get to drink gin at School?
Absolutely! You will get to sample our Hotham's Gin, distilled on site; so please try and avoid a cheeky pre-drink before you come along to School - you will be near a very hot still and we want you to enjoy the event safely.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, it’s a great experience to share; however, each person needs their own ticket. If you want to book multiple tickets for your many friends, please contact us as we may well be able to arrange a private hire of the Gin School for you all.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
By law, you must be 18 or over to participate. We have a Challenge 25 policy, so if you are lucky enough to look under 25 or are under 25, please bring ID with you. This is a really important condition of our licence to run the Gin School. We're sorry, but without ID we may have to refuse you on the day, and neither of us wants that!
Can I bring the kids along?
All participants must be 18 or over. We are sorry, but due to licensing restrictions, this is one School that children under the age of 18 are not allowed to attend.
Do you have accessible toilets?
Our distillery is in an arcade built in 1894 and therefore we have had to have the toilet installed upstairs. However, we do have the use of the newly refurbished Trinity Market toilet facilities, which are open during the day. We advise customers who have difficulties with stairs to call us prior to booking so we can recommend the best time to come.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the School?
We are in the 'Old Town', so there is easy access from the taxi drop off point in Silver Street, and we are within walking distance of the train and bus station. We recommend not driving to the event so that you can fully enjoy sampling our wonderful gins and sample straight from our still! However, we do have a range of non-alcoholic drinks for drivers.
Do you do Gift Vouchers?
Great idea - Gin School tickets make excellent gifts and we also offer Gift Vouchers for sale on our website here www.hothams.co.uk
I'm always hungry - will you feed me?
No - sorry, we don't serve food. We might be able to wrestle you some crisps from Emma's lunch box, but that's about it. However, there are loads of fantastic independent restaurants and cafes in the area for you to enjoy.
I have food allergies - can you cope with that?
Are you kidding? Have you met Simon, our co-founder? You can compare notes!
We absolutely can help here. We have lots of experience with food allergies and can cater for these. More info can be found here: https:www.hothams.co.ukpagesallergen-declaration
What's the refund policy?
R-R-R-Refunds? Granville, f-f-f-fetch a cloth and wash this customer’s mouth out, will ya?
All ticket sales are refundable or exchangeable with 7 days notice. Any less than that, please call us and we will see what we can arrange for you. We want you to have an amazing experience and the unexpected happens, but booking a date does reserve you a place, so please be mindful of that.
I still (still - see what I've done there?) have a question for you, such as: how can I contact you with any questions?
Email or call us and we will answer your questions as soon as we are able. See our website for more details: www.hothams.co.uk
