Catch the winning short films from the 31st Leeds International Film Festival. The programme will include the winners of the Academy Award Qualifying International Competition and World Animation Award, the BAFTA qualifying British Short Film Competition, and the overall audience favourite. This programme really does bring you the best of the fest! The full selection of award winners will be announced in early November.
Louis Le Prince International Short Film Competition Winner: COPA-LOCA

World Animation Award Winner: WICKED GIRL

Told through an 8 year old girl’s ramblings and stories, the hand drawn animations emphasise her overflowing imagination, but soon her happy memories of holidays in her grandparent’s village begin to give way to darker images. Included in the official selection for both Annecy and Toronto Intl. Film Festival, this short film lingers with you long after it has ended.
British Short Film Competition Winner: THE DOG AND THE ELEPHANT

Filmed in stark black & white, this impressive short is a captivating monologue about the kinship between a boxer and an elephant from a travelling menagerie. The boxer’s struggle to live with Tourette’s syndrome is made all the more difficult as his fractured life leads him on a brutal journey of destruction and retribution. You can’t walk from a fire untouched.
